The city of Bakersfield is offering a lifeguard certification class beginning with assessments at noon Feb. 24 or at 7:15 p.m. March 4 or April 4.
The assessment at McMurtrey Aquatic Center includes completing a 300-yard swim test, a 10-pound brick test, and be able to tread water for two minutes.
Upon completion of the assessment, students enroll in an upcoming Lifeguard Academy and apply online for the city’s lifeguard position at www.bakersfieldcity.us. They must attend the entire course selected.
Academy 1: 8-6 March 9, 10, 16, and 17.
Academy 2: 8-5 March 25-28.
Academy 3: 8-6 April 13, 14, 20, and 21.
Cost is $225.
