Park Stockdale is a neighborhood of 578 homes located in beautiful southwest Bakersfield With entrances at Rio Bravo DrIVE and Lennox AveNUE. Park Stockdale is a quiet, mature community with a distinctive character not seen IN the newer housing tracts where it is difficult to tell one house from the next.
Residents enjoy community amenities including four full-size tennis courts, a five-lane, 75-foot-long swimming pool with diving board, Harrington Park – a private community park/playground, and Frank Weldon Community Hall – the neighborhood community center. Regular neighborhood activities include T-Ball, bi-annual neighborhood-wide yard sales, and seasonal neighborhood events.

Senior breakfast
About 50 Park Stockdale seniors were treated to breakfast this morning at the hall.
As part of their community outreach, Girl Scouts Troop 8121 prepared a feast including: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, eggs with cheese, biscuits and gravy, fruit cups, French toast sticks and waffles with toppings including syrup, strawberries, peaches, chocolate chips, and whipped cream. Beverages included: milk, lemonade and orange juice.
The oldest Park Stockdale residents were acknowledged with smiles, prizes and applause. About a half dozen are original home owners. The following won Hobby Lobby gift cards: Woody won for having driven the longest without a ticket. The oldest resident, Louise, 90, has been living here 57 years. Ardyce was the oldest person to walk regularly. She uses a walker and turns 82 next week.
Many people said they had a great time and their facial expressions confirmed it.
This was the second Senior Breakfast Action Project sponsored by Thrivent Action Project. Park Stockdale resident Becky Powers led the activity.
Bakersfield Police Department Community Relations Officer Rachel Rivera talked about safety issues. She encouraged people to get out and walk or bicycle in the neighborhood. From a safety point of view, the more people moving in the neighborhood, the less crime.
In addition to calling BPD when observing suspicious activity, Rivera suggested people take note of the offenders’ shoes. When describing a suspect, their clothing is important but suspects often pull off layers of clothing. They don’t generally change their shoes.
Girl Scouts Evelyn and Lunes described their Girl Scouts’ Silver Project refurbishing the game room and led a tour of the game room after breakfast.
Walk N Wheels/Movie Night
Eight intrepid athletes braved 95-degree weather to bike and scoot around the neighborhood in the Walk N Wheels event at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
That number swelled to 40 for an outdoor family movie in the park at 8:30. Residents enjoyed fresh popcorn popped by Nadine Tamondong and Ana Flores.
Walk N Wheels, Movie in the Park
Park Stockdale will host its second Walk N Wheels for residents and their guests at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, followed immediately by a movie night in the park at 8:30. In honor of Independence Day, participants are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue.
Sixty people enjoyed the first event two months ago.
Participants ride bicycles, tricycles, skateboards or scooters or push baby strollers around the neighborhood.
Whatever the mode of transportation, come have fun cruising the neighborhood and then enjoy a family movie in the park.
Game room renovation
Priscilla and Evelyn are renovating the game room for their Girl Scouts silver award project.
The girls from Troop 8121, under the direction of troop leaders Lidia Torres and Ashley Luna, and with help from family and friends, painted the room, restained the counters and cabinets, and replaced the light bulbs with LEDs Saturday. Next weekend, they plan to deep clean the carpet.
But they need help with their vision to modernize the room from its 1960s origin.
They are requesting donations from the community. Their wish list includes:

-Window curtains
-Trash cans
-Mini refrigerator
– storage cabinets

Bike Rodeo
Many thanks to the Bakersfield Police Department for sponsoring a Bike Rodeo at the Harrington Park basketball court Saturday morning.
Officers taught arm signals and how to steer in a tight circle. Children showed off their skills as parents watched.

Bike Rodeo Saturday
The Bakersfield Police Department will sponsor a bike rodeo at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Harrington Park basketball court.
Children can show off their skills as parents watch. Bicyclists should wear a helmet. Spectators are encouraged to bring a chair.
Watermelon will be served in the pavilion after the rodeo.
