Park Stockdale hires new administrative assistant

Ana Flores is the new face of Park Stockdale.
She started this week as administrative assistant in the office.
She replaces Sharyn Coleman who retired after many years of service. “The board of directors thanks Coleman
for her decades of dedicated service and welcomes Flores,” board president Jim Carnal said.
Coleman will be available for advice or to fill in as needed. Flores has been a resident of Park Stockdale since 2016. She serves as a board member and also volunteers on the community committee, which puts on events like the Easter egg hunt, Halloween and Christmas programs.
She said, “I am excited for the new role and my continued service to this amazing community and its residents. Please don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello.”
Office hours remain 10-1 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

    Playground structure removed

Saturday morning, five volunteers removed a decades-old playground structure because of safety concerns. The Board of Directors decided that the structure, which was more than 40 years old, needed to be removed before it became a danger. The metal slide got hot in the summer, the green tube was very fast and the platform was no longer level. The structure was below tall trees that sometimes drop limbs during storms and above-ground roots were a tripping hazard.

Volunteers were: resident Adam Johnson, his father Al, who does not live in the neighborhood, residents Scott Yadon and Leo Garza and board president Jim Carnal.

There are no plans to replace the structure because of the poor location.

Thank you so much for all who took the time to decorate their homes. It’s a beautiful tour around the neighborhood.

The home with music that plays in coordination with the lights is 5908 Hesketh Drive. Turn your radio to 99.9 fm.
The home where you can press a button to make snow and fog fall on the decorations is 901 Elsey Street.

The home with a beautiful nativity set is 6000 Preston Court.

The number of inflatable decorations has increased delighting the children.

These are some of the best homes in the neighborhood as judged by four adult and four child residents. Board Vice-President Roxanne Fackler spearheaded the project. Winners each won gift certificates for a dozen Foster’s donuts.

Park Stockdale certainly has the Christmas spirit.

The Park Stockdale Civic Association board of directors approved removal of a diseased ash tree in the playground after it dropped three limbs during recent windstorms.

John Karlik, a tree expert with the UC Cooperative Extension, said the tree was infested with carpentermoths.

Three neighboring trees that were leaning were also trimmed.

Dinosaurs and princesses, superheroes and unicorns, more than 50 costumed trick or trunkers in all, enjoyed the Park Stockdale Civic Association’s Halloween Spooktacular Trunk or Treat and Carnival Friday, Oct.  27.

Seven volunteers decorated their car trunks into everything from a Las Vegas Raiders-themed ghoulish nightmare with skeletons and skeleton dogs to a spider’s cobweb littered with skulls and ghosts that costumed creatures had to brave if they wanted a treat.

The parking lot party included a dance competition, emceed by Melissa Martinez, followed by a costume parade.

Then the party moved into the hall for 13 carnival games and prizes run by volunteers from the Bakersfield High junior varsity baseball team, Toys for Tots and the Young Marines.

Board member Kiki Contreras masterminded and ran the event. Board member Ana Flores helped set up and board member Josh Saravia, and his wife Marilyn, decorated their car trunk for the candy distribution.

Teresa Bradburn, Anthony and Jessica Martinez,
Mariah Lopez, Jose Martinez, JV head baseball coach Dale Romero, coach Sammy Lona, Darlene Doughty, Amber Anderson, Erick Gutierrez and Marc Sandall also volunteered their time.
